What Are the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People?
Most people think that if they develop habits like waking up in the morning, loving their work, working hard and evaluating time accurately, they will be able to achieve success in life.
While good habits help us to be successful in life, we need to focus on our character in order to change our current situation, and to change that character, the author describes seven habits in this book, Those are.
1. Be Proactive
Proactive means being ready and active for everything, you have to be proactive
Take responsibility for what you do in your life without blaming anyone else, the author has divided the word Responsible into two parts in this book Response and able,
This means we are able to respond to any event that happens in our life
First the author tells us what we think of ourselves, for example if your friend or a person tells you that you can’t have any fun, you are a little grumpy, in reply you say yes I am, here you are Think of it as the opinion of others,
The author considers this to be a very bad aspect because it is not your perception, This is the perception of what he is saying. Our perception is made up of three different processes,
- The genetic process, The different genetic perceptions of our ancestors are formed in us.
- Our perceptions are built on the different habits of our family since childhood and the way we spent our childhood.
- Our perceptions are also created by the people around us, such as by looking at different behaviours in the workplace, by mixing with the people around us.
The author says that these three things help us to develop our personality but, mainly, our personality is revealed depending on how we react to any event.
We have the option to choose how we will react to any event in life, we choose the thing that we like.
It is not that we are compelled, in some cases it is seen that we say we are compelled to do this work but, in the case of not doing so, you have chosen the event itself, so you have to do this work.
Suppose you lost an argument with a friend and then started wondering why I lost,
You sucked this loser yourself. You thought that arguing too much would make the argument worse so you may have kept quiet, that’s why you lost.
The author says that the expected events in our life are basically of three types, firstly the events that you can change the event or problem by changing your mistakes according to your decision
Secondly, there are some things that you can change indirectly, that depend on others, you can change them indirectly after explaining them and talking to them.
There are some things that can’t be changed in a way that you have no control over.
For example, there are things in the past that you can’t change if you want to, so you have to accept those things or you have to accept those problems.
2. Begin with the End in Mind
Start with the end, the word means, before you start any work, think about the last stage, what do you want to achieve by completing the work, which will meet your needs?
People are different, some people are money centered, some people are family centered, some people are friend centered, some people are entertainment centered, let’s give an example to understand this. Suppose you are working in an organization and suddenly your boss tells you to work overtime, then what will you do?
If you are family centered then you must think that I have promised to go out with my wife or family, so I can’t keep my promise by doing this.
Again if you are friend centered you will think that all my friends are working, Then I will too.
if you are money centered you will think that It costs money to travel, but if you work a few hours of overtime, some money will come.
In this way the action we take towards any task tends to change. So before you start any work, fix your specific goals.
To do any work, first write down your main purpose, if that work is your whole life, then imagine what kind of compliments you would like to hear from your dear friends and family when you leave the world.
Set your work ethic by specifying them. The author says that if we continue to work in this way, we will be able to achieve exactly what we need in the end and live a happy and successful life.
3. Put First Things First
In practice number three, the author mentions four quadrants
- Number one, there are some activities that are important and need to be done immediately,
- Number two is some activity that is important but not necessary now,
- number three needs to be done now but not important,
- Number four is not important, there is no need to do it now.
Most people follow Quadrant One and after a while they feel boring and out of it they move to Quadrant 4 where things are not important anymore and there is no need to do it again.
This is because the tasks at Quadrant One never want to end. The workload increases so much that we can never complete the tasks at Quadrant Number Two, so gradually everyone gets bored of that task and becomes frustrated.
So the author says we have to start with quadrant number two first because the tasks in number three are not important and the tasks in quadrant number 4 are not important, the tasks in quadrant number two are important but there is no need to do it now so start with tasks in number two Then very few of our tasks will reach the number one quadrant because they are urgent and we have already completed those tasks before doing so.
There was a time when there were three generations of management. Number one generation had no future plans, no simple to-do list and no need for priority. The second generation would have a to-do list and future plans but no priorities. Then there is the third generation where the priority was to-do list and even future plans but the priority of the work was on daily basis, which made the employees of the company boring and they would go back to number four because they had to do the same daily tasks. It would be boring to do so, they wanted to quit their job. The author then suggested implementing a number four generation where priority was given but delivery was on a weekly basis, so that there would be no boring feeling on the part of the company’s employees.
To achieve your main goal in life, you need to follow the fourth generation management system where you create your weekly to-do list and list some of the tasks that are important but not urgent. The amount of urgent work will continue to decrease, and monitor them on a daily basis to see what work remains to be done or what work we need to add.
However, when creating a to-do list, keep in mind the second habit where you need to create your to-do list according to the principal you created to accept your goals.
4. Think Win-Win
There are three types of thinking people among us. Firstly, those who always think that in order to win, they have to lose someone, on the other hand, there are people of another species and there is a kind of thinking people who think that in order to win someone else, they have to lose themselves. There is a type of person who thinks like this, if he can’t win himself, he won’t let others win, let’s understand each issue with an example.
Suppose you somehow create a product and sell it in the market. The raw material for making that product is given to you by someone. You want the business to be profitable, to buy raw materials at the lowest possible price, but think of that other person here.
Is his business profiting by providing him with raw materials for profit or loss? He does not need to look but his main goal is to make his own profit. What happens is that the person giving you the raw material may stop giving you the raw material after a while, because he will think in his mind that he is not making any profit by selling the raw material, or Profits are very low. As a result, you may lose a relationship, which may result in loss of your business.
This can be illustrated with the same example from the point of view of the raw material supplier. So if the person providing the raw material is thinking that whatever is coming, let it be more or less. As a result, he may not be able to understand directly, but gradually a situation will arise in his mind which will automatically stop giving raw materials to that person. Because gradually he can become a first-rate person by thinking about this issue, which will result in the loss of both the persons.
The author gives a very good example to explain this thinking to people: Once upon a time, there was a quarrel between husband and wife which resulted in divorce. According to the law, the man was to sell his property and give half to his wife.
So he sold his property for only five thousand rupees, as a result of which his wife got two and a half thousand rupees and he also got two and a half thousand rupees. But his thought was that he would lose himself and lose others. His main concern was that his wife should not get too much money from his wife, so people with such thoughts bring their own danger.
The author tells us to follow the principle of win-win, all-model – if you think of winning over your dependent as well as your own, then gradually you can win the trust of the person who depends on you. Ultimately, both of you can succeed. However, there are several areas where the Win-Win Deal does not work, where the author tells us to compromise. But compromise should be the last tool for us. In places where things are not working out, for example, in a situation where you have a relationship with your loved one, your wife, or for your son, you can’t do it because you can’t break that relationship very easily, to compromise a bit. However, the amount of compromise should reach the win
5. Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
Suppose you have an eye problem. You go to the doctor. After you go there, the doctor tells you to read his spectacles without any examination and asks if you can see properly.
You didn’t see anything. Because those glasses were designed according to the power of his eyes and the power of your eyes is different so it did not fit your eyes. There can be arguments between the two of you and the relationship can be bad.
This is just an example, you can apply this example in your life in different ways, think about how the same thing could happen in our life in more different ways. Where we only solve any of our problems, solve the same problem for others to follow, but
do not look at the problem well, do not look at the problem from his angle. To solve the problem we need to look deeply from that person’s angle and Need to find a solution.
And to do that you need to listen to the person’s problem first and understand the problem from his or her angle. Listening is different, first you just listen to the person’s words but don’t try to understand it well and remember it No. Second, remember to listen carefully to the person’s words but do not try to understand his feelings. Thirdly, you listen to these words thoroughly and try to understand their feelings. The author tells us to understand the person’s feelings after listening to the words here very well and then advises you to react according to the person’s feelings.
6. Synergize
The word adjustment comes from unity, which means that when some people do something alone, their productivity is several times greater than what they do when they work together.
If you do something together, the work will increase quickly and multiply a lot, but even after knowing this, not everyone is able to work in a united way, it requires some skills, then we will now know about the skills to do any work in a coordinated way. When working with one person or more than one person, you need to communicate with them properly, build emotional relationships with those people, and win their trust.
There are some people who have no idea when others are working on the team because they think that what they think is right. We should always remember that a good idea is created by two people talking. So it is never right to think that your thoughts are right, take advice from other people and see what their thoughts are. Maybe their thoughts and your thoughts come together to come up with a new idea that can increase the productivity of any work several times. It doesn’t work in teamwork to justify one’s thinking, because there is no difference between working like this and working alone.
This policy applies to all areas of your family, work, business life, and any kind of social work.
Again some people discuss but there they do not compromise, so as not to create any kind of argument or bad relationship. There was no proper teamwork because you accepted the other person’s idea correctly, and the perfect thing did not come. The perfect thing is to come up with an idea or a strategy altogether, in some cases, one person’s idea is exactly the other’s idea is wrong but there are some cases where the two ideas are correct but from two different perspectives so fear of losing any argument or relationship. Compromising can prove to be wrong in many cases.
7. Sharpen the Saw
- First of all, we don’t take proper care of our body, we think that it is not so important now, it will be seen later. We become preoccupied with various tasks, and as a result, there comes a time when a major disease strikes our body. So in order to keep our body healthy, we need to maintain our daily physical exercise and eating proper food so that no major disease is seen in our body in future.
- Second, in order to keep our minds healthy and to live peacefully, we must constantly follow the things that bring us peace, For example, if you give peace of mind by doing some kind of worship, then do it every day, if you feel free or mentally free as a result of hanging out or talking with someone for a while, then do it regularly
- Thirdly, you need to increase your own knowledge. If you are constantly proficient in any particular field, then you should read various books or articles on this subject so that the amount of knowledge covered in that particular subject will gradually increase and we all know that there is no end to education. As long as you live you will keep learning new things. Don’t think that what you are learning is already learned. There are many things that you have learned but there is something better than that. Get in the habit of reading books or any article
Conclusion
So these seven are the seven habits from the book that we can apply in our daily life to be a very effective people and be successful in life. Now let us take a look at what we have learned from this whole gist
- From be Proactive we learn that we are responsible for whatever happens in our lives and no one else is responsible for it.
- We have to decide what we want to hear about ourselves when we leave this world, we have to make a principal and we have to act according to that principal.
- We have to make a to-do list every week, first of all we have to coordinate what we should do, follow it and verify it regularly.
- First you have to understand others and react accordingly, then they will also show interest in you, and try to understand you.
- The party in front of you and you both can win, you have to think like this, And, for that, you have to do what is needed, When it is not possible, only a little compromise can be made, but it seems to be the last resort.
- When we work together with others, our productivity multiplies and our quality multiplies, so we need to communicate properly to do any work together.
- We need to constantly increase our physical capacity, mental capacity and knowledge so that our productivity never diminishes

Never complain about somthing without being able to provide some sort of solution. I think this is a basis of why so many things get changed and or messed up in social media because the people who complain about situations are usually the biggest coulprets
